17. Not Quite Ready

 Not Quite Ready ?

I mentioned at the beginning of this blog that it took me about three months before I was ready to ask Jesus into my life whereas for my wife it was nearly immediate.

Through that time, I went to church, read the bible and then happened to read a book of C.S Lewis’s called Mere Christianity and that did it for me. The Holy Spirit had been drawing me and then I was finally ready to step out in faith and receive Jesus as Lord.

If you are not at that point where you are ready to say a Salvation prayer like the one earlier and mean it, I would encourage you to get a Bible and start to read it.

The four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are a good place to start. Also, the first book, Genesis which explains the creation of the world and the book of Acts which describes the beginning of the church.

Find and attend a church that seems to match up with what you are reading Biblically.

From experience, not all do, and some could be described as Christian cults.

The Holy Spirit is your friend and will give you discernment if you ask Him.

Spend time with other believers and don’t be embarrassed to ask questions about things you don’t understand. Most of them at one point were in a similar position to you until they could finally step out in faith.

Most importantly pray, which means talk to God and ask Him to reveal Himself to you.
He can do that in many ways - directly to you with a quiet voice to your spirit, through something you read in The Bible or a believer may even approach you saying that he felt like God has a word for you.
God can be very creative when He wants to get your attention.

You can pray to Jesus too. It is a biblically sound practice. He is an intercessor for us, meaning He is like a bridge between us and God.

Just don't give up.
